summer intensive - 1 week - San diego
The Kevin Jenkins Summer Intensive offers dancers the opportunity to train, perform, and learn about dance careers in a structured, supportive environment. Dancers with a strong foundation in ballet and contemporary are invited to join Kevin Jenkins and Ballet Counterpointe dancers for a week-long intensive program focused on choreography and performance. Learn from these artists as you advance your technique and artistry.
Dates: July 22-27, 9am to 5pm
Ages: 16-30
Level: Advanced
Location: Dorothea Laub Dance Place 2650 Truxtun Rd. San Diego, CA 92016
Cost: $600 Monday-Friday, +$100 for Saturday's Professional Development course
The program will follow a standard summer intensive schedule from Monday to Friday, with students participating in daily ballet and contemporary classes. After class, the main focus of each day is rehearsal. Kevin believes that learning new choreography is one of the best ways to hone a dancer’s technique and artistry. Rehearsals will culminate in a Friday night performance by all the workshop students. Students will have the opportunity to perform in various acclaimed ballets such as Still Waters, Eclipse, and more, choreographed by Kevin Jenkins and previously performed by the dancers of Ballet Counterpointe.
Professional Development Day
On Saturday, students who choose to remain for the extra day will participate in a Professional Development course run by Kevin Jenkins, featuring small group workshops focused on building a sustainable career in dance. Sessions will include how to choreograph, social media marketing, networking & auditioning, and arts administration careers.
Housing
Housing will not be offered, but the Ballet Counterpointe team can provide hotel suggestions. Dancers are encouraged to make reservations and/or housing plans early to avoid conflicts. Any dancers under 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian, as Ballet Counterpointe cannot provide chaperones outside of class hours.
